Coastal Trident 2019

Coastal Trident 2019 is aligned with the Annual Naval Technology Exercise (ANTX) in order to support U.S. Navy science and technology initiatives.

CT-19 activities provide a low-risk environment in which developing technologies can be evaluated for their abilities to meet Fleet needs

  • Maritime domain awareness and information dominance
  • Asymmetric threat detection and characterization
  • Unmanned systems applications and countermeasures
  • Incident response and remote support of shipboard combat systems

ANTX activities have facilitated CT-19 engagement with 7 U.S. Navy Warfare Centers

Coastal Trident ANTX Intent

The exercise will be conducted to examine the operational and technical capabilities of regional stakeholders to address asymmetric threats to port and maritime operations, commerce, and critical infrastructure

  • Training activities will be designed to increase individual and unit proficiency in specialized port and maritime mission tasks
  • Technical demonstrations will be designed to increase awareness and access to developing technologies
  • Field experimentation activities will be designed to validate concepts of employment and evaluate performance under operational conditions
  • Exercise activities will be designed to validate concepts of operation and evaluate capabilities under operational condition
Objectives

The following overarching objectives have been established to support the intent of the Coastal Trident program

  • Evaluate capabilities to recognize and respond to asymmetric threats in the port and maritime domains
  • Evaluate operational coordination, command and control, and interoperability between port and maritime security stakeholders
  • Evaluate capabilities to collect, exploit, and disseminate information in support of dynamic operational decisions
Program Design
  • CT ANTX will be conducted as a series of technical demonstrations, field experiments, discussion-based and operations-based exercises
  • A modular construct facilitates control over interactions between program activities and permits achievement of a diverse set of objectives
    • Minimizes risk of disruption due to real-world operational commitments
    • Minimizes risk of disruption due to performance or integration of technology
    • Allows for concurrent activities by participants at differing levels of proficiency
